Dear Readers,
It gives me a great satisfaction to
take part in this fifth edition of
Israel-India Business Guide, this
time on agriculture and water.
Both of our countries collaborate
on a growing range of subjects;
many of them are existential ones.
And yet, there are two fields that
suit this description more than all,
these would be the fields of water and agriculture.
Throughout the years the State of Israel developed unique
expertise and approaches to sustainable agricultural
and the management of limited natural resources.
Israel’s private and public sectors have been conducting
advanced R&D in order to provide our rapidly growing
economy the necessary basic conditions that will make it
possible for them to keep on this track.
Israeli know-how and achievements in a wide range of
fields including desalination, recycling and treatment
of water are unparalleled anywhere in the world. The
challenges in water that our countries face, both in urban
and in rural areas, demand that we join hands and utilize
the best knowledge and technologies available, in order
to promise a viable future for the generations to come.
There is similarity and compatibility of challenges and
interests between Israel and India when it comes to Food
Security. Our cooperation in agriculture is demonstrated
in the several of Indo-Israel Centers of Excellence being set
up in various States across India. These Centers are aimed
at increased productivity through the use of adapted
Israeli knowledge and technology to the benefit of the
farmers and the people of India.
We truly believe that the cooperation between India
and Israel in water and agriculture not only has a huge
growth potential but also is a major pillar of the relations
between our governments and people. We call upon the
private companies on both sides to take advantage of the
abundance of opportunities.
I hope you will find this guide usefuland wish you success
in your future activities in Israel and India.
Yours Sincerely,
ALON USHPIZ
Ambassador of Israel to India
Dear Readers,
There is no doubt that two of
the most vibrant sectors for
cooperation between Israel
and India are Agriculture &
Water. Many Israeli players in
these sectors are already at
some level of cooperation
with their Indian counterparts.
However, the continuing
challenges and opportunities in these fields have
created the need for even further cooperation.
Frequent visits by delegations from both sides have
focused on this.
Several Israeli companies already have manufacturing
facilities in India. The list is growing and the scope for
Joint Ventures and Strategy Partnerships is wide. The
Government of Israel has made determined efforts
to expose Indian farmers to new technology and the
large number of Centers of Excellence that are planned
in various States of Indian is a testament to this. Funds
for cooperation in Research & Development and in
setting up Joint Ventures are in place. We encourage
our companies to offer their services in every State of
India and partnerships have been established both
on the Government-to-Government level and the
company-to-company level.
We are therefore pleased that Paprika Productions
Limited of Israel and Abraham Yehuda & Associates
of India are now publishing sector-dedicated
Israel-India Business Guides. These publications go
a long way in ‘spreading the word’and in helping
corporates and institutions in the two countries
understand each other’s needs and encourage them
to work together.
We call upon Indian companies, agriculture and water
professionals and farmers to visit Israel in sector-
focused delegations or to visit our major agriculture
and water-related event over the next couple of years.
This will facilitate further cooperation on the ground.
Our Consulate is open to assisting you in your efforts.
