Executive Summary—Focus on Ireland
Women in Technology Scholarships.
Running for the second year, this programme
encourages high-achieving women to pursue a
career in science and technology. Five women
from various Irish universities received a
monetary grant of $2,600 per annum, as well
as an Intel work placement and the provision
of a career mentor.
Centre for Talented Youth.
In 2013, Intel
collaborated with the Centre for Talented
Youth Ireland to introduce a pilot programme
where female students between the ages of 14
and 17 can participate in weekly engineering-
based classes. The 10-week course
introduced young women to the world of
engineering and the opportunities associated
with careers in this area.
Tyndall National Institute.
In 2013, Intel
announced an additional $1.5 million
investment in the Tyndall National Institute
at University College Cork. This investment
secures continued collaboration between Intel
and Tyndall for the next three years. Under the
agreement, Tyndall and Intel researchers will
investigate next generation materials, devices
and photonics technologies as a continuation
of the first phase of this programme and
facilitate the development of key innovations
for future electronic devices.
Women Invent Tomorrow.
Launched in 2013,
Women Invent Tomorrow is a campaign that
champions the role of women in science,
technology, engineering and mathematics.
As part of this campaign, Intel sponsored a
trip for the winner of the Ireland’s Greatest
Woman Inventor competition to travel to
NASA and also visit the Intel Museum in
Silicon Valley, California.
SciFest.
In 2013, Intel was a key sponsor
of the Scifest competition, a series of one-
day science exhibitions for second-level
students hosted across Ireland. Through
the competition, 5,368 students exhibited
262 projects, and the winning project team
competed at the Intel International Science
and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the US.
Sponsors of Tomorrow Exhibition.
This
exhibition travels the world and visits multiple
Intel sites to enable employees to engage
with Intel’s latest technology. In 2013, the
exhibition visited the Leixlip campus and for
the first time was open to the general public,
with almost 200 people attending the event.
