Major projects inWater Management with Israel
• Israel NewTech, an initiative led by the Israeli Ministry of
Industry,TradeandLabour, ismatching Israeli clean-tech
companies with Indian partners to tender solutions for
the Ganges. The Indian government aims to have no
untreated municipal sewage or industrial runoff enter
the Ganges by 2020. It combines technological aspects
and elements from waste water treatment and water
management up to irrigation.
• Israel and India have signed a key agreement on water
treatmenttechnologies.Thedealincludesthedevelopment
of joint research and development ventures in the fields of
resource management, sewage, and drainage.
• Israel’s Netafim’s collaboration with India’s JK Seeds is
aimed at adapting the drip method for rice farming.
• India & Israel have signed a joint declaration for
cooperation in the field of technologies for treatment
and purification of water in India’s urban area. The
collaboration in such vital areas like urban renewal, solid
wastemanagement, drainage, desalination technology,
recycle and re-use of waste water, technology for water
use andmetering, financial sustainability of urbanwater
supply, sanitation and sewerage services, preparation
of city master plans including efficient use of land, land
economics, transport corridors.
Other Projects
Thegovernment of Indiahas signedanagreementwith the
World Bank for USD 37 million loans to support Himachal
Pradesh Mid-Himalayan Watershed Development Project.
Gujarat government has launched a USD 1.61 billion
Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation Yojana project
which aims to fill all 115 dams in the region with Narmada
water by interlinking a total of 87 rivers.
An international consortium, consisting of two Japanese
multinational companies, Hitachi and Itochu, and a
Singaporean enterprise, Hyflux, a leading firm in water
management projects, will set up a major desalination
plant at Dahej at an estimated cost of USD 0.32 billion.
The Rajasthan government has received USD 102 million
as loan from French Development Agency for Jodhpur
water supply project, which is estimated to cost USD
119.04 million. The project aims to augment and extend
the present system for meeting the water demand of
Jodhpur city till 2029.
