Executive Summary—Focus on Ireland
Developing Talent
Intel Ireland offers internal Intel Learning
and Development courses that cover a broad
range of topics related to processes, technical
aspects, safety, leadership development,
project management, problem solving,
effective decision making, cross-cultural
training, communication training and
influencing skills. In 2013, we offered 2,194
training and development classes to our
employees, as well as tuition reimbursement
to employees undertaking job-related studies.
We maintain a culture of open and honest
communication, and encourage employees to
connect with managers, senior leaders, and
each other through Open Forums, quarterly
events, mentoring and coaching, employee
groups, and online and social media channels,
and to expand their skills through rotational
or temporary assignments.
Embracing Diversity
The wide range of perspectives we gain
by hiring and developing talent from a
diverse, global labour pool gives us a better
understanding of our customers, suppliers,
and communities. We invest in initiatives
to improve the recruitment and retention
of women and people from multicultural
backgrounds in technical and leadership
careers. Internal and external training
opportunities and a networking series offer
leadership tools and career-enhancing
strategies, and are available to peers, coaches,
and senior leaders and technologists. We also
encourage networking with peers in other
Irish companies. In 2013 we held our first
Connecting Women In Technology (CWIT)
event to celebrate International Day of the
Girl, drawing over 300 delegates from 11 top
companies in Ireland.
Emphasising Health and Safety
During 2013, we successfully completed
a recertification audit for the voluntary
environmental health and safety standards
OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001. Our onsite
safety performance consistently remains
at world class levels. In 2013, Intel Ireland
achieved an Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) recordable rate of
0.15 for Fab 24—eight times better than the
US semiconductor industry average. Almost
98% of our employees are active in identifying
and driving safety improvements through our
quarterly Good Catch reporting system. We
also offer a broad range of onsite wellbeing
programmes for employees to evaluate,
improve and maintain their health and that of
their families. Other onsite facilities include
fitness centres and programmes, massage
services, an employee assistance programme
and various wellness initiatives.
Encouraging Volunteerism
Engaging our workforce in meaningful
volunteer experiences benefits communities
while positively impacting employee
satisfaction and pride. Through the Intel
Involved programme, 61% of Intel Ireland
employees volunteered at more than
132 schools, sports clubs and non-profit
organisations in 2013. Over the past five years,
our employees have volunteered a total of
over 266,000 hours in the communities where
they live and work. In 2013, our employees
selected Irish Hospices and the Irish Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children as
the two signature charities for the year. In
addition, the Intel Involved Matching Grant
programme awards cash grants to schools,
charities and non-profit organisations where
Intel employees volunteer their time. Since
2008, the Intel Foundation has donated more
than $2.4 million to Irish organisations.
Intel encourages direct communication, risk taking, and the open
exchange of ideas essential for innovation. We work to give employees
the right mix of autonomy and direction, and are committed to helping
them get the most out of their careers—from recruitment through
retirement. Our safe and respectful culture enables employees to
thrive on the job and in their communities.
