Philippe Tob, CEO, AQVITA SRL As Israel increasingly relies on desalinated water for municipal use, the challenge o f remi ne ra l i zat i on—espec i a l l y t he reintroduction of magnesium (Mg)—has become essential to maintaining public health. Aqvita addresses this issue with a portfolio of scalable technologies designed for both centralized water systems and decentralized applications. For centralized systems, Aqvita is developing an innovative enzyme-based technology that enhances the dissolution of mineral powders using carbonic anhydrase in the presence of CO 2 . This process mimics nature’s way of creating mineral-rich water, allowing for continuous and energy-efficient addition of magnesium bicarbonate to large volumes of purified water. It offers a sustainable and controllable solution for municipalities looking to improve the nutritional quality of their water without introducing undesirable additives. For decentralized settings, including households, schools, clinics, or remote l oca t i ons , Aqv i ta ha s de ve l oped a patented system that uses supersaturated magnesium bicarbonate solutions. These solutions can be dispensed either manually or automatically into purified tap water to restore healthy magnesium levels. The system is compact, affordable, and easy to use, requiring no electricity or complex equipment. It providesapractical alternative to bott l ed mi nera l water or di etar y supplements, especially for individuals who struggle with pill-based intake. Magnesium is essential for many aspects of human health, including heart function, bone strength, and metabolism. However, it is almost entirely removed during desalination. Aqvita’s technologies offer flexible solutions to reintroduce this vital mineral into drinking water—whether at the city level or directly at the point of use. The water produced closely resembles high-quality natural mineral waters, supporting both taste and wellbeing. At the conference, we will present the science behind our approach, initial deployment resul ts , and the potent i a l for wider implementation. By bridging advanced chemistry with user-friendly design, Aqvita provides ameaningful response to the health challenges posed by desalinated water.
